our new neighborhood!!!

after weeks of searching all over this city looking at mostly overpriced dumps with the occasional too dark gem, we found this gorgeous light filled 40's art deco apt in Los Feliz yesterday! We put that application in fast and signed that lease! The interior is so inspiring, we went by today to get some pictures but couldnt get in-- try again tommorow... the apt is on Serrano at Hollywood Blvd, a very interesting , extremely diverse area, seems like a Russian / Armenian / Thai mix ... a block away from the recently revitalized Hollywood / Western intersection ...below....

and this gem next to us ... as patrick says - a no tell motel

and our apt building! ours is the second floor one!

liquid science

this is the site and work of Patrick Mattison- also making magic at that experience experiment show with his hypnotic and beautiful video installations.

Experience Experiment

by this point i was almost sleep walking i was so tired from the long day and night...the tea having worn off....and we walked into this show and were promptly sent into another dimension entirely. The combination of the music and the all encompassing visuals corresponding to the sounds was totally refreshing.
http://strukt.at/# --- the site of the austrian visuals crew partly responsible for this experience
and luckily i had my camera with me finally

create:fixate

next on the docket was the create:fixate show, held maybe 5 blocks from the hive show in downtown LA. What I say about downtown LA at night is that it feels like you can't afford to stop at red lights when your walking down there--the boogie man is in full effect and you better get where your going fast. We made it safely to the show, in an old dept store building?(my total guess) , stood in line, bag searched, camera found, had to walk all the way back to the car dodging the boogie man again....we made it unscathed but alas no pictures, just an interesting site to show you if you care to click on the link above (the name).
ps the show was gorgeous, worth risking life and limb for- and patrick sold one of the new fancy car portrait canvas prints there too

thanksgiving

regretfully there are no pictures of my pretty lattice topped apple pie, my heart shaped biscuits or my fabulous gold tablecloth over the work desk table setting. at least you get to see me putting my dressed chicken (yes- chicken...smaller, less intimidating) in the oven. i cooked all morning, patrick watched football and collaged and picked lemons from the tree for me to stuff the bird with. YUM. and the the apple pie at sunset. that beach is magic im telling you.

thankful ZUMA

apple pie and zuma beach at sunset- what could be better? click on title link above to see the Zuma live cam. i love that place, the sunsets most magically there in a 360 degree fashion. i realized this evening more fully than ever that the sun is ALWAYS SETTING AND RISING somewhere. at every hour and minute of everyday. alll at the same time. its a nice metaphor too.

our sequoia adventure

last weekend we spent 2 days lost , driving through the sierra nevada mountains with a lying map trying to get to Sequoia National Park. Charred pine forests, curving winding roads, driving 40 miles only to find a dead end, driving down dirt roads looking for other roads on the advice of some passing hunters in coon caps. finally finding a campsite 30 minutes before dark, cooking a rice and stirfried veggies in my copper pots on a coleman stove perched on a tree stump. a babbling brook is the only plumbing , patrick made a fire entirely of the biggest pinecones you ever saw, thank GOD cause it was COLD ...the stars shining fiercely bright.
the nextday - patricks birthday-more driving, more lost, finally giving up that night and crashing at a Days Inn in Visalia, me singing happy birthday to patrick with a bunch of candles stuck in a trio of hostess cupcakes (omg WHO eats those? they are SO gross, yet so pretty)
the next day we finally find our vacation, a short drive to the Park and a visit to the largest tree in the world (the General Sherman)...we finally find a perfect campsite --next to a huge rock formation with a clear golden trout filled stream cutting through (water carves rock so masterfully). ahhhhhhh. fresh air...and were out of the car, finally. we get our 24 hours of peace and hit the road back to our LA existence.
